Introduction to Natural Dyeing & Tie Dye workshop – Beginner Workshop
It was the mid 19th century when the first chemical colour got created. Before this human was only used to the colours that they extracted from nature with their own hands. They used the same to create art, to beautify oneself, to colour their clothes, etc. They used coloured earth, minerals, plant extracts to create complex yet beautiful processes to express themselves through the art of different forms. These art forms were passed on to the next generations.
At the workshop, you will be introduced to the locally available ingredients that can be used for dyeing at the workshop. We will be making samples using kitchen waste ingredients.
The workshop will introduce you to these natural colors and you will explore the basics of Tie & Dye , dyeing using natural materials available around you. It is going to be a fun informative session. Join in and get your hands dirty. It will cover the following –
- Understanding natural dyes and its properties, tie dye practices in India.
- Identifying locally available materials
- Preparing the fabric for dyeing.
- Practice dyeing using kitchen waste materials.
- Techniques of tie & dye .
- Dying the fabric.
- Post-treatment of fabric.

Dr. Hemalatha Jain is founder of Punarjeevana Trust – A Non Profit Trust was founded in 2014 with a passionate objective to reinstate an extinct weave Patteda Anchu and revive hope of weavers from Gajendragad, a remote interior town in North Karnataka.
We have kept a very small fee of 8€, which be used to support the artisans & weavers community .
