Craft: TASSAR PAINTING
Tassar Painting is the oldest and the most traditional form of painting from Orissa. The traditional method of painting was more intricate, hypnotizing and time taking process. This craft, in ancient time was painted over a palm leaf. But now it is done on tassar cloth which is a very fine form of hand spun silk. A single piece of painting takes months together to complete.
Mr. Kailash Chandra Meher has practised the crafts in it’s traditional form and has an advanced Diploma in Fine Art & Craft from Shantinikaten Vishwabharti University. He has trained a number of craftpersons from the younger generation and among his trainees, four persons have already been given National Award.
Mr. Kailash Chandra Meher ia a national awardee in the year 1986 and received the Shilp Guru Award for excellence in TASSAR PATTA PAINTING. He has also received the Unesco Award in 2004.
